چکیده

The current study examines the technical inefficiency of Indonesian manufacturing firms and its key determinants. Extending previous research that mainly focuses on in a specific industry, groups into nine industrial clusters estimates them separately to find variety results among clusters. stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) method is applied estimate score determinants 5,848 for five years (29,240 total observations). Data period ended 2014 due substantial change classification code industry survey by Central Board Statistics. Five notable findings are recorded. First, average efficiency all observed 0.8815. Second, firm size found have negative effect sample three out (ISIC 34, ISIC 35, 37). Third, foreign ownership generates contribution firms’ both each Fourth, export orientation has various effects across clusters, with dominant significant impact paper product 34) metal 38). Finally, import intensity provides most These support argument importance absorption capacity unique characteristics analyzing inefficiency.

Inefficiency in Japanese Water Utility Firms: a Stochastic Frontier Approach

I examine inefficiencies in Japanese water utility companies. Efficiency in this context is defined as a firm’s capacity to maximize output given a fixed level of inputs. The findings suggest that the average operation rate, customer density and size variables are associated with lower levels of inefficiency (or higher levels of efficiency), while water purification (a conditioning variable cap...

Technical Efficiency of Teaching Hospitals in Iran: The Use of Stochastic Frontier Analysis, 1999–2011

Background Hospitals are highly resource-dependent settings, which spend a large proportion of healthcare financial resources. The analysis of hospital efficiency can provide insight into how scarce resources are used to create health values. This study examines the Technical Efficiency (TE) of 12 teaching hospitals affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) between 1999 and 2...

Technical Inefficiency and Public Capital in U.s. States: a Stochastic Frontier Approach

This paper estimates a translog stochastic frontier production function in the analysis of all 48 contiguous U.S. states in the period 1970-1983, to attempt to measure and explain changes in technical efficiency. The model allows technical inefficiency to vary over time, and inefficiency effects to be a function of a set of explanatory variables in which the level and composition of public capi...

Innovation Determinants in Manufacturing Firms

In this paper the findings of an empirical study concerning the innovation determinants in manufacturing firms is presented. The empirical study covers 184 manufacturing firms located in the Northern Marmara region of Turkey. The types of innovation considered here are product, process, marketing and organizational innovations. An extensive literature survey on innovation determinants is provid...

A Model for Technical Inefficiency Effects in a Stochastic Frontier Production Function for Panel Data

A stochastic frontier production function is defined for panel data on firms, in which the non-negative technical inetGciency effects are assumed to be a function of firm-specific variables and time. The inefficiency effects are assumed to be independently distributed as truncations of normal distributions with constant variance, but with means which are a linear function of observable variable...
